It is with great sadness I hear of the passing of my friends Teri and John
Shumsky. It was Teri who shared with me my love for a tiny Yorkie , Smoky found in the far pacific jungle in WWII It was Teri who lovingly made five life size "Hairamics "of Smoky using her skills as a ceramist and placing the hair of five Yorkies each, of many champions donated by the quality breeders who cared about Teri's project of making life size Smokys for future generations. Three are standing and two are in WWII helmets. They are so life-like people ask with apprehension if they see one, " is it Smoky stuffed?" The Smokys are all where they are deeply appreciated. Smoky # one for example is in the Lobby of the University of Tennessee Knoxville; College of Veterinary Medicine, in fine exhibit wearing a duplicate of Smoky's war blanket complete with insignia and ribbons, surrounded by her medals and memorabilia, with rolling educational TV, explaining the life of Smoky. Teri through her gift funding has supported the Liver Shunt research by her dear friend Dr. Karen Tobias DVM, the foremost researcher on the deadly disease. Although not prevalent the Yorkie of all breeds, are most prone. Teri's Fund with help of her many supporters helps pay for life saving operations in those in need of financial aid and at the same time contributing to research. Teri in her most productive life as a breeder with a top quality Kennel, excelled as fine ceramist, authored the most definitive books on Yorkie birthing, so helpful other breed kennels use it as a guide, a partner of husband John for 25 years in their restaurant business out east, and of late it is the Liver Shunt problem in Yorkies that she devoted most of her vitality. John so devoted to her was at her side through all these very productive years. It is rare and fitting that they should go together. It was together I met them, it is together I bid farewell as they travel the final journey. I thank you Terri and John from the bottom of me heart. God loves you.
